Ways to Give

Your support is critically important to the land, air, and water of Connecticut and all the shores and waters of Long Island Sound. Thank you for your interest in giving to Save the Sound!

Your gift makes a difference:

  • $15 can provide 10 native grass seedlings for marsh restoration
  • $25 can buy gloves and trash bags for one coastal cleanup
  • $75 can help our Climate Attorney spend one day lobbying in Hartford to protect environmental laws
  • $500 can sponsor a hands-on green job skills workshop for youth
  • $750 can pay for one education event about protecting Plum Island
  • $2,500 can support a policy and communications intern for the summer
  • $5,000 can install a riverside vegetated buffer the length of a football field
  • $10,000 can fuel the Soundkeeper’s patrol boat for one season
  • $15,000 can pay a solar energy community organizer for one year

There are many ways to give. You are welcome to give at the leadership level to the organization as a whole or target your contribution to your favorite program. Become a Sustaining Member with your monthly gift. Choose a once-a-year contribution, or remember Save the Sound in your will.

However you choose to give, thank you!

Save the Sound is a tax exempt charitable organization under Section 501(c)3 of the Internal Revenue Code.

Leadership Gift

Become an Environmental Champion or join the ranks of Advocates for the Public Trust with your leadership gift. Advocates make an annual commitment of between $1,000 and $9,999 while Champions often make multi-year commitments and give $10,000 or more per year. Schedule your payments to suit your needs, give quarterly, annually, or in regular installments. Designate your gifts to a specific program, or donate to meet the organization’s highest need. However you choose to participate, please know that Advocates and Champions are key to Save the Sound’s success. Your kind donations provide one-fourth of all funding and the lion’s share of flexible unrestricted dollars.

To begin to show our appreciation, we’ll recognize your generosity with personalized updates and communications, VIP invitations, and insider access. Be on the shortlist to see Plum Island. Cruise with the Long Island Soundkeeper. Hear the latest insights from program staff and organizational leaders. And most importantly, know that your gifts are vital to saving Long Island Sound and protecting Connecticut’s environment. Please call Alicia Sullivan, executive vice president of philanthropy, at 203-787-0646 ext. 109 anytime to find out more.

Real property

Gifts of real property can be harder to manage, so we cannot always accept them. Please contact Alicia Sullivan at asullivan@savethesound.org or 203-787-0646 ext.109 if you have a piece of property you’d like to donate.

Matching gift

Does your employer match your donations? Many do, and will double or triple the amount you give! Contact Anne Urkawich at aurkawich@savethesound.org for more details.

Planned Gift

Planning for your philanthropic legacy is like planting a tree. It will grow and benefit the region long into the future. So, leave a legacy that will last for generations by remembering the environment in your estate plans. With many options available, including bequests, charitable gift annuities, life insurance, and 401(k) designations, your generosity will have a lasting impact on our land, air, and water!

With a planned giving strategy, you put your assets to work in perpetuity for Save the Sound. Many gift options are available. Your gift can be named for you, a loved one, or a favorite staff member. You may endow a staff position. Development staff would be happy to discuss gift opportunities in more detail. Please let us know that you plan to leave a gift in your will or from your life insurance or 401(K). That way, we’ll know to add you to our Legacy Society. You will receive special invitations to talks, events, and parties, and you’ll be recognized in annual reports. To discuss leadership gifts and planning giving strategies, please contact Alicia Sullivan, chief development officer, at asullivan@savethesound.org or 203-787-0646 ext.109.
