Do you want to see spaces in Fair Haven improved or celebrated? If so, we invite you to come chill at the Mill River and visit other locations in its watershed through an interactive scavenger hunt. Join us as we imagine new projects for abandoned buildings, community gardens, and access points to your neighborhood’s rivers and parks. This scavenger hunt will take you to some places your neighbors have already identified as places with potential for improvement. Visit them and tell us what you want and need there.

You can find exact locations through our Scavenger hunt Google Map.

Background

This scavenger hunt was inspired by the Urban Waters Initiative Fair Haven PhotoVoice Project held during the summer of 2022. This neighborhood project was conducted by people like you! Your contribution to this scavenger hunt will help us better understand what your priorities and concerns are in Fair Haven.

What’s PhotoVoice?
PhotoVoice is a data collection method using photograph to identify, represent and enhance a community through the lens of its own residents.

Residents took over 100 pictures around Fair Haven. These images creatively captured their concerns and appreciations of the neighborhood. We had plenty of conversations about what these pictures mean, and then placed them into five categories: abandoned buildings, green and blue spaces, homelessness, trash and litter, and safety hazards.

PhotoVoice participant, Miktricia Mitchell, snaps a photo at the Grand Avenue Community Garden.

Most pictures showcase multiple issues which leads to the bigger question: How can these environmental spaces be improved as a whole?

By participating in this scavenger hunt, we are asking you to help us answer that question and reimagine these spaces.
