On a Saturday in June, an anonymous citizen watchdog alerted Save the Sound to a sewage overflow entering the Hutchinson River from Mount Vernon’s sewage system. The report sounded our alarm.
July 17: Beaches are Open. July 16: Ten beaches in Westchester are closed to swimming today and tomorrow because of heavy rain overnight.
Sunday, July 13: Westchester’s Long Island Sound beaches are open today. Saturday, July 12: Long Island Sound beaches in Westchester County are open today. It’s a beautiful summer day, so enjoy the water!
Westchester residents can learn directly and immediately about sewage spills that might alter their plans for being on the water.
Prompt action by a Save the Sound volunteer and the Westchester County Department of Environmental Facilities resulted in a repair to a manhole had spilled raw sewage into Marshlands Conservancy nature sanctuary last month.
