2017 legislative priorities for Connecticut

As the new year begins, Connecticut Fund for the Environment and its bi-state program Save the Sound gear up for the Connecticut legislative session. Throughout the session, which runs from January 4 through June 7, we will work with legislators, Governor Malloy, state agencies, fellow organizations, and citizens across Connecticut to advocate for laws that will protect and improve your land, air, and waters. Here are some of our top priorities.

Agenda for 2017 Connecticut legislative session

Strong Climate Commitments

  • Strengthen Connecticut’s climate commitments by improving accountability in greenhouse gas reductions.
  • Expand the state’s goals for renewable energy to continue the shift away from dirty fossil fuels.

Clean Connecticut Waters & Long Island Sound

  • Protect drinking water from industry and drought.
  • Ensure sufficient funds to stop sewage pollution from fouling rivers and the Sound.

Clean Energy

  • Make electric vehicles more accessible to interested buyers.
  • Guard the funding that spurs innovation and generates clean and efficient energy across Connecticut.

Defense of Our Environment

  • Protect the roadside trees that beautify our state and clean the air.
  • Ensure that Millstone doesn’t co-opt Connecticut’s energy future by diverting incentives currently dedicated to renewables.
  • Defend against bills seeking to weaken or roll back protections for land, air, and water.

We’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest news and action opportunities throughout the session. To get special urgent alerts on climate and energy bills, sign up for our Climate First Responders list here.

And in case you missed what happened in the legislative session last year, our 2016 review has all of the details.
