PRESS RELEASE: Paddle for the Sound Event to Benefit the Health of Long Island Sound

Environmental advocates and nature enthusiasts will kayak, paddleboard, or canoe to raise funds and awareness

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — Save the Sound is back for its eighth year of Paddle for the Sound! For nine days, this annual Paddle for the Sound fundraiser will virtually bring together athletes, outdoor enthusiasts, and activists for either a leisure paddle, or a kayak, SUP, and canoe competition for those who want to challenge themselves. Participants will track distance paddled and raise funds to protect the Sound and its rivers, restore local ecosystems, fight climate change, and save endangered lands.

From July 29 to August 6, take to the water with your favorite activity tracker turned on. Participants will paddle from self-selected launch points, tracking their miles with each excursion. Take screenshots of the distance on each excursion and send it to the Paddle for the Sound team who will compile the results. Winners will be announced and prizes awarded for total distance paddled over the duration of the event and most funds raised to take action for our environment!

Support the great outdoors—in your own backyard! Your support keeps your Long Island Soundkeeper on the water tracking down pollution at its source; prevents trash from making its way into our waterways; protects our native and migratory fish species; and so much more. And you make it happen just by getting outside on the water this summer! Paddle for the Sound celebrates the rivers, lakes, ocean, and all greenspaces that make the Long Island Sound region truly spectacular.

Participants can register up until Friday, August 4 at https://www.savethesound.org/paddle
