Ameera coordinates Save the Sound’s water quality monitoring fieldwork. Most of her time is spent in the field collecting water quality data and supporting the network of groups and volunteers, which is integral to the Unified Water Study, bacteria-monitoring program, and Long Island Sound Report Card. She first joined Save the Sound as the Seasonal Environmental Technician in May 2022.
Ameera graduated with a B.S. in Marine Environmental Science from SUNY Maritime College and is working towards a M.S. in Environmental Planning and Management from Johns Hopkins University. Shortly after graduating with her undergraduate degree, Ameera was a Research Scientist for The Living, studying the feasibility of growing mussels in the Hudson River. She then went on to work as a Science Educator for The Maritime Aquarium, presenting classroom, exhibit gallery, and field-based programs.
Outside of the office, Ameera enjoys bowling, traveling, fishing, and being out on the water!
