PRESS RELEASE: Urban Waters Initiative to Hold 2 More Fair Haven Events

New Haven, CT – Save the Sound’s Urban Waters Initiative (UWI) project will hold 2 more free events, Mic at the Mill on August 17, and a Recycled Art Workshop on August 22, as part of this year’s Fair Haven based community program.

On Saturday, August 17, Mic at the Mill will showcase the climate stories of Fair Haven residents at Bregamos Community Theater. The event, organized by UWI, Project Drawdown, Women Without Borders, and Semilla Collective, is part of a summer-long series of community happenings in the New Haven neighborhood along the Mill River. Mic at the Mill will highlight the stories of Fair Haven residents, as well as the vital role of storytelling, creativity, and music making within climate and environmental justice movements.

“Bregamos Community Theater’s mission is to create community-based theater from the diverse stories of New Haven residents,” says Rafael Ramos, director of Bregamos Community Theater. “Storytelling is a powerful skill that can reach the hearts of millions.”

Following Mic at the Mill on Thursday, August 22, UWI’s final event in this year’s series will be a recycled art workshop with artist Michael Albert at the Fair Haven Public Library. Michael Albert will conduct a hands-on collage workshop where all participants will create their own collage using the same recycled materials he uses in his art.

“The UWI project is an emerging cultural catalyst in the Fair Haven neighborhood,” says Xochitl Garcia, UWI community leader. “It’s one of the first major projects emphasizing community input and action with support from a regional organization.”

Mic at the Mill – August 17, 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., at Bregamos Community Theater, 491 Blatchley Ave, New Haven, CT. You can register to attend Mic at the Mill here.
