Join nature enthusiasts and environmental advocates in an exciting kayak, paddleboard, or canoe challenge to support a healthier Long Island Sound
NEW HAVEN, Conn. — Save the Sound is back for its ninth year of Paddle for the Sound! Whether you’re in for a leisurely paddle or looking to test your limits in a kayak, SUP, or canoe competition, there’s something for everyone throughout the event. Participants will track their paddling distance and raise vital funds to protect the Sound and its rivers, restore local ecosystems, combat climate change, and conserve endangered lands.
From July 12 to 21, take to the water with your favorite activity tracker turned on. Registered participants will paddle from self-selected launch points or participate in group paddles, tracking their miles with each excursion and sending them to the Paddle for the Sound team, who will compile the results. This year, we’ve partnered with Connecticut rental shops to offer rental discounts, group classes, and more for our participants. Thank you to Kingfisher Adventure Kayak Rentals in New Haven, Scoot & Paddle in Milford, and Thumb SUP Yoga in Darien for partnering with us.
Winners in first, second, and third place for Total Distance Paddled over the duration of the event (July 12-21) will be eligible to win a prize package. There is also a Photo Contest for any participants who share photos or videos on Instagram and tag @cfe.savethesound and #PaddlefortheSound. Thanks to the generosity of local businesses like Outdoor Sports, Patagonia, Bass Pro Shops, cinder + salt, Ben & Jerry’s, and Urban Lodge Brewery, our prize packages have a combined value of over $1,000.
Don’t miss supporting the great outdoors—in your own backyard! Your support helps us continue to track down pollution at its source, prevent trash from making its way into our waterways, protect our native and migratory fish species, and so much more. And you make it happen just by getting outside on the water this summer! Paddle for the Sound celebrates the rivers, lakes, ocean, and all greenspaces that make the Long Island Sound region truly spectacular.
Participants can register up until the last day of the event, July 21, by visiting Save the Sound’s Paddle page.
