Tomorrow is the 22nd annual Long Island Sound Citizens Summit and we at CFE/Save the Sound are excited for what is going to be a great day of presentations and discussions.
This year’s summit theme is “Superstorm Sandy & the ‘New Normal:’ Rebuilding for Resiliency and Adapting to Climate Change.” At the summit, attendees will be hearing from a variety of speakers ranging from federal agencies and municipal officials to advocates and members of academia. You can view the full agenda here.
Our featured presenter is New York Times climate blogger Andrew Revkin. In a question and answer format, Revkin will discuss the role of the evolving media in helping disseminate information about climate change.
We are dedicating this year’s summit to longtime Sound citizen advocate Art Glowka, who recently passed away.
Art, a former Eastern Airlines pilot, was a founding member of the Long Island Sound Taskforce (now Save the Sound) and the Hudson River Fishermen’s Association, and he was chairman of the Stamford Shellfish Commission. His constant persistence and contribution to the Sound will be sorely missed.
If you haven’t signed up already for the summit, it’s not too late. The cost is $35 for the general public and $20 for students. You can register for the summit online.
If you can’t make it, you can follow the day’s conversation on Twitter using the hashtag #LISsummit. We will be live-tweeting from the event under our @SavetheSound account.
We hope to see everyone at the Long Island Sound Citizens Summit tomorrow!
