Yesterday, Curt Johnson and Chris Cryder of CFE/Save the Sound set out on a week-long journey traveling Long Island Sound by sailboat.

Curt and Chris will be docking in several locations in Connecticut and New York along the way, including Bridgeport, Darien, Mamaroneck, Oyster Bay, and Port Jefferson, to meet with local advocates and elected officials to talk about Long Island Sound and the current issues facing our region’s gem.

After some motor troubles, the boat set sail from Branford yesterday at 2 P.M. heading to Bridgeport. With light wind, it took about three hours to reach Lighthouse Park in New Haven at 5 P.M. Below are some notes sent to us from Chris about the sail:
We saw a few big blues surface around Morris Cove. Terns were circling some bait fish. We are now sailing in New Haven harbor, and wind has picked up. It is very calm and peaceful right now as we tack to open water and soon pass breakwaters… [around 8 P.M.] We are now looking at an 11 P.M. arrival into Bridgeport. It is a gorgeous night on the Sound – calm, light wind and warm water. We can see Stratford Point in the distance, a flashing beacon leading us to Bridgeport harbor.
